Ocean Crawler Champion Diver
Dive watches have always been the most popular ones among the watch addicts community. They generally fit many situations, whether you wear them on a bracelet, a rubber, a leather strap or even a nato.
The watch I’m reviewing today is the new version of the Ocean Crawler Champion Diver, the Palomino Island. It has been made to be able to face any situations, being extremely shock-resistant and water-resistant to 2000 Feet (says the website).
- Case Material: 316L Stainless Steel
- Case Diameter (excluding crown): 44.2mm
- Case Thickness: 15mm
- Lug-To-Lug: 51.8mm
- Lug Width: 22mm
- Bezel: Unidirectional Rotating Bezel with 120 Clicks and Swiss SuperLuminova Marker
- Movement: Sellita SW200-1
- Movement Accuracy: +/- 5 seconds/day in 3 positions
- Water Resistance: 600 meters, 2000-feet or 60 ATM
- Powerful shock resistance to 6000 G
- Glass: 4.5mm thick domed sapphire crystal glass with anti-reflective coating
- Guaranteed to keep precise time for at least 5 years
The Champion Diver’s case is quite large with its 44.2mm width, but it’s really well balanced with short curved lugs. These lugs have two springbar positions, allowing the straps to be adjusted close to the case, which is most welcome.
The Helium Escape Valve is located at 9 o’clock and the crown stands the standard 3 o’clock position. What catches the eye as soon as you open the box is how wide the dial seems to be thanks to the domed sapphire glass and the fluted stainless steel bezel, a bit like the one of the Oris Big Crown.
The new Champion Diver comes in 3 colorways: grey, blue or red. The gradient dial is absolutely gorgeous and contrasts beautifully with the applied indices and logo!
The text on the dial was printed with a thin font so it doesn’t affect the very good legibility. The hands could have been a bit wider though, but this is more a matter of personal taste, reading time on a glance is as easy as it gets, even in the dark thanks to an efficient usage of SuperLuminova.
The movement the Champion Diver is equipped with is the renown Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1. It’s both robust and reliable while remaining affordable. A perfect choice IMHO.
The watch comes with an orange vulcanized rubber strap and a signed deployant buckle. Although I would have appreciated being able to adjust the buckle on-the-go with a glidelock-like system, this one is still quite convenient and offers many holes for a better (yet still limited) adjustment.
An additional leather strap is also provided with the watch, for a less sporty style. Good point, it is already equipped with curved springbars!
On the wrist
Like already mentioned, the large case is really well balanced. The result is a very comfortable watch that I enjoy wearing on the stock rubber, the leather strap or even on a MN band.
What I like about Ocean Crawler watches is that they don’t look like any other watches, they come with their own identity. With the Champion Diver on the wrist, you know that you have an accurate timepiece that you’ll be able to wear anytime, from casual meetings down to the ocean bed!
