Arpiem Racematic TJW-3
Watches and cars… Two worlds that trigger a lot of passion and could be really close from each other! I have already introduced you to Arpiem Watches and their beautiful yet affordable race-inspired chronographs. Today I’m reviewing for you the prototype of the Arpiem Racematic, the new model created by Vincent Repoux.

- Limited edition of 300 pieces individually engraved on the caseback
- Calf-skin band with deployment clasp

Note: The watch I’m reviewing being a prototype, there are a few differences with the production version:
- The metal box it came in is the one from Arpiem’s first chronograph
- The band differs from the production one in terms of quality and buckle engraving
- The rotor will be customized and engraved.
The Racematic has brushed finishes, from the the stainless steel case to the DLC tachymeter bezel, offering a even more sporty style than Arpiem’s first chronograph and its glossy parts. The quality looks quite good, especially for the asked price! It features a transparent caseback, allowing a direct view to to movement. The caseback is engraved with the watch’s individual number (it’s a limited edition) and the words “Conception française”, meaning that the whole design comes from France. The crown at 3 o’clock is engraved with the brand’s logo. Although it doesn’t feature a screw-down crown, the watch is still 10ATM WR.
One can easily say that Vincent Repoux knows how to give a watch a genuine identity, and the Racematic’s dial definitely carries Arpiem’s signature! There are 3 versions of the Racematic, each of them having a different color scheme. The TJW-3 comes with the beautiful Gulf colors, a sand colored dial with orange and light blue stripes on the subdials at 12 o’clock and 6 o’clock. The whole dial looks like a car speedometer, it’s really beautiful in person, well done Vincent!
For their first automatic watch, Arpiem didn’t go the cheap and easy way of the Miyota 8* series. They chose the MIYOTA 9132, a premium movement offering a 40h power reserve and a -10～＋30 sec per day accuracy.
On the wrist
The Racematic is larger than Arpiem’s previous watches, with a width of 42.5mm. It still wears well thanks to relatively short and curved lugs. It might be a little bit thick (13.8mm) but that mainly because of its movement. A Miyota 9015 would have been 2mm thinner but it wouldn’t have matched the style of the watch. That being said, the Racematic is well balanced and its eye-catching dial really raises people’s attention 🙂
Arpiem nailed it once again with their first automatic watch! The Racematic is a well-built piece showing a genuine identity at an affordable price: 365€ (pre-order discount).
