5′ with Dan Henry – CEO of Dan Henry watches

Getting to know a new watch is something we love, but what if you could discover a bit more about the history of that watch’s brand? Today we’ve spent 5 minutes with Dan Henry, founder of Dan Henry Watches.

What triggered the creation of your own brand ?

I have a huge collection of watches, visit www.timeline.watch, but as for many collectors, collecting can become a disease/addiction and when I lost a very rare Rolex, I suffered so much from the loss that I decided to reduce the time I invested in my collection to create something more fun and challenging, Dan Henry watches was born to save my life… lol.

Sorry for my bad English, I am Brazilian and English is not my first language.

What are the most significant difficulties you encountered ?

From the beginning I wanted to make an affordable watch brand, my biggest difficulty was finding the balance between price and quality, so I visited dozens of factories in different countries to find suppliers that accept to produce the parts I needed for the price that I could afford. The components of my watches are manufactured in 4 different countries, and to make this possible I invested a lot in research and logistics. I can say today Dan Henry watches is a very modern and efficient company.

Where do you find your inspiration ?

Very simple question, I recreated the watches from my collection that I like the most to be able to use daily without worrying about hitting or breaking.

How do you see the future of the brand ? Is there any confidential(ish) information you could disclose to us ?

I feel that I’m making watches to my friends and to myself and I’m really not doing it for the money,  It is obvious that I will be happy if the brand grows and becomes worldwide known and respected but my goal now is simply to learn watchmaking, understand the market and do something I love.

I don’t invest in marketing or pay for bloggers because I like my brand to be affordable and exclusive at the same time.  For 2020 I am planing many new models and new colors for the existing ones.

Which advice would you like to give to someone willing to follow your path ?

It’s a risky project, do not try unless you are sure you are good at it, every day a new brand is born, competition is brutal and the investment needed to make it right is not small, I would say that 90% of the new brands don’t survive the first year.

Anything else you would like to share with AWDO ?

Yes, stay safe and enjoy collecting!
