5′ with Rafael Simoes Miranda – Founder of Dwiss
Getting to know a new watch is something we love, but what if you could discover a bit more about the history of that watch’s brand? Today we’ve spent 5 minutes with Rafael Simoes Miranda, founder of Dwiss Watches.
What triggered the creation of your own brand?
I created DWISS because after designing for other brands for years I found that was something missing in the market, something that is really different in terms of look but didn’t cost you a fortune, and having the right approach to its clients. Since I had the right contacts in the market in terms of production, I knew I could come up with something different that could be sold for a fair price.
What are the most significant difficulties you encountered?
Approaching the right clients took me some time, as a creator and not a sales person was hard for me to understand the best ways to sell. Some people have selling in their blood and can sell anything, I have creation in the blood and creators and sellers did not match perfectly. I’m giving my clients the best they can buy for their money, and sometimes it’s hard to make new clients understanding that.
Where do you find your inspiration?
From everyday life, anything around can give inspirations, sometimes an inspiration to create can comes from a meditation and relaxation, some other time can come from a very busy city life.
How do you see the future of the brand ? Is there any confidential(ish) information you could disclose to us?
Making more models per year would be the right future, I wish I could create more and focus less on marketing and sales (because I do everything here) so I can produce more creative and unique timepieces.
Which advice would you like to give to someone willing to follow your path?
Get to know the market before starting, like the says goes “it’s a marathon, not a sprint”, don’t go there trying to “revolutionize” the watch industry, because it’s most likely the you’ll not.
