The Gentlemen’s collection by Pompeak

Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, Pompeak is back with the Gentlemen’s Collection. Before going further, please note that the version I had in my hands for this review is a proto. It’s been used for many reviews already and has a few hairlines on both the case and the bracelet.

Let’s have a look at the specs:
Case Material: 316L Stainless Steel
Size: 40 mm Case Diameter
Strap: 21 mm Linked Stainless Steel – Silver
Movement: Miyota 82S5 (Automatic)
Glass: Sapphire Crystal
Water Resistance: 10 ATM (Up to 100m)

The idea behind this British-designed piece was to create an eye-catching watch that could be affordable for most people.

When first opening the box, the attention is directly attracted by the depth of the dial. Not only by the large open balance-wheel heart that takes a significant part of it, but also by its beautiful texture. It gives a gorgeous and eye-candy effect of light and shadow that really makes the difference!

The open heart sits next to the small second sub-dial which is surrounded by silver lines, just like the indexes. The hands are treated with Super-Luminova, but let’s be honest, it won’t last the whole night. Anyway, this isn’t a toolwatch, and as far as I’m concerned I wasn’t looking for the best lume on a dresswatch.

The polished stainless-steel case comes with a sapphire glass on the front with a quite large opening, offering a good legibility even under the direct sunlight. The caseback is covered with a sapphire glass too so you can view the movement inside. This version has a beautiful stainless-steel bracelet, alternating brushed and polished finishes and featuring a butterfly deployment clasp.

From a design point of view I can understand both the open-heart and the transparent caseback. It usually makes more sense to view the movement when it’s well decorated though, here the Miyota 82S5 is an entry-level self-winding movement.

This watch is globally well thought and well made. Pompeak is offering with its Gentlemen’s collection an interesting opportunity to get a beautiful dresswatch for an affordable price, especially if you consider getting it with the pre-order discount and the 10% off by using the code AWDO10. The final price would thus be £236.88, which I believe is a good one.
