Crafter Blue Hyperion Ocean 600m
The research of the ultimate tool watch is a frequent question in this group and on the multiple watch forums. The watch has to be robust, with a top legibility, water resistant (of course !) and if possible it also has to look good. Stop searching, here’s what you’ve been looking for : the Crafter Blue Hyperion Ocean 600m.
The Hyperion is an evolution of the former Undive Dark Sea, now made under the Crafter Blue brand, with their manufacturing knowledge. Even if the watch looks close to its predecessor, there are some significant differences.
Let’s have a glance at the watch specs:
Helium escape valve
Unidirectional rotating bezel
Bracelet: Vulcanized pure rubber strap
Strap color: Black
Case: 316L stainless steel
Case Diameter: 45mm
Case Back: Stainless steel back with sapphire crystal
Dial color: Blue
Crystal: Domed sapphire crystal
Lug width: 22mm
Movement: Sellita Calibre SW200 (stop-seconds function, 28,800 vibrations, 26 jewels)
Water Resistance: 600m / 2000 ft
The 45mm watch case is fitted with a Helium Escape Valve, which has become a standard for such a dive watch. It also has a large screw-down crown, which is easy to handle without scratching too much into the wrist when the watch is worn, thanks to its position at 4. There are 3 versions of the Hyperion Ocean, with either a SS bezel or a black DLC one, both offering unidirectional rotation with 120 clicks and 2 dial variations: black or sunburst blue dial.
An interesting (and not very common) thing is the transparent caseback that is showing the brand’s logo engraved on the inner iron shield rather than the movement itself.
Let’s agree on the fact that it’s a massive piece! Considering that the movement is encased in a soft iron shield to protect it from magnetic disturbances, it explains the thickness. If you’re a “chicken-wristed-watch-addict” you may want to know that thanks to short and curved lugs, it still sits really well even on smaller wrists!
The blue sunburst dial is absolutely gorgeous! It changes so much with the light and is really eye-catching. The Hyperion definitely plays with the best watches in terms of legibility: the luminiscent indexes are contrasting with this clean dial, and so are the 3 hands.
Crafter Blue are well known for their vulcanized rubber straps, and the one provided with the Hyperion makes no exception: not only it’s among the best rubber bands you can find in terms of quality and robustness, but it also has the advantage of being easily adjustable thanks to its 15 holes.
Regarding the movement, Crafter Blue made a major improvement compared to the predecessor of the Hyperion by using the well-known and reliable Sellita SW200 rather than the Seiko NH35 that equiped the Undive. The watch shows now ‘Swiss Made’ on the dial.
To sum it up, we have here a handsome watch combining professional specs and a true identity. The pre-order price is $680.00. Please note that Steve Chan offers to the group a 15% discount with the code AWDO15. Thanks Steve !
